Sustainability has never been a more relevant and necessary topic. It’s the responsibility of everyone on Earth to support eco-friendly methods in order to preserve the planet. At the University of Huddersfield, we are committed to sustainable practice. From making it our mission to become carbon neutral by 2030, to investing in sustainably built facilities and providing a wealth of opportunities for students to get involved and showcase their green credentials.
For us, sustainability isn’t just a goal, it’s the only way forward.
A forest of freshers
Did you know that we aim to plant one tree for every student who chooses to study with us?
The University is working in partnership with White Rose Forest and Kirklees Council on an exciting project to reforest areas of land within the local community, over the next two years.
Staff and students at the university can also attend Tree planting sessions and contribute to project.
Reduced Inequalities
We’re ranked 2nd in the world for Reduced Inequalities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for 2024, which celebrate commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
Sustainable labs
When you study with us, you’ll have access to inspiring facilities that are run in a sustainable way.
18 of the labs in our School of Applied Sciences have achieved Bronze LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) accreditation, recognising their work towards running in a more efficient and environmentally friendly way.
Our Bronze award labs are now working towards Silver status, with other labs joining the framework as a commitment to sustainable practice and to gain LEAF accreditation.
