English language requirements
The University’s normal entry criteria apply to all international students. For details of country-specific entry requirements please visit your home country page on our website.
English language requirements for any degree
The University has formal requirements for all applicants. These are normally English Language qualifications which we recognise as meeting our entry criteria. Requirements may vary between programmes, and you are advised to check these carefully when going through course listings.
The following table sets out the main qualifications we recognise and the levels that are normally required for admission. It is intended as general guidance only - the offer of a place, if it includes an English Language condition, will specify the level of English that you are required to meet.
The University of Huddersfield is pleased to accept a Pass in all four elements at the Proficiency Level of the Ascentis Anglia ESOL Language qualification as meeting the University’s English Language requirements for students from the EU.
If you don’t yet meet these requirements, don’t worry as we have an extensive Pre-Sessional English Programmes (PSP) on campus.

Why did you choose Huddersfield?
In the beginning, I searched for the subject that I want to take for my Master's Degree. Then I came across MA of Spatial Design with Professional Engagement in Huddersfield. I realised this is an interesting subject, then I started to do more research about Huddersfield as a town because I'd never heard of Huddersfield before. The town is very pretty and not too crowded, it is vibrant and the town has everything that you need, perfect for students.
What was the best thing about studying at Huddersfield?
Everything is within walking distance. Because I lived in the student dorm in Little Aspley Hall, it is only across the street from the Uni. If I need to go to the supermarket there’s Sainsbury's and Asda only 5mins walk away and a small Asian store close by too. In the town there is a shopping mall called the Kingsgate Centre, the town centre also has lots of small cafes, book stores, pubs, markets, everything that I need is there. The train station is only 15-minutes away. And let’s not forget the people are very nice, friendly and very helpful. Which makes me feel comfortable, safe and overall it has been a very enjoyable and pleasant experience.
What was it like living in the UK?
Since I have lived in Indonesia and Singapore before I went to live in the UK for almost 2 years. Surprisingly it didn’t give me any significant culture shock, I could adapt to the lifestyle and the culture quite easily. I love going to the park and having a picnic with my friends whenever the sun is out. We could spend almost the whole day there just watching other people playing or reading books. I love going to the markets to buy fresh fruits in the morning. I also enjoy travelling around the UK to different cities, visiting different museums and of course going around trying different types of street food. That has been the highlight of my experience! Overall it has been one of the most memorable memories for me.
How did your degree help your career?
It helped me a lot on how I approach things and solve problems. Of course in real life it comes down depending on each client. In Interior Design clients always expect us to come up with a unique design in each of our projects, which sometimes is hard to do. But what I have learnt is to think outside the box, try to create a mind mapping for each project which led us to get a stronger concept, which eventually differentiate from one project to another.
