Application process for undergraduate and taught postgraduate Master’s courses

There is lots to think about when applying for university. To make things easier, we’ve put together all the information you’ll need to help you make the right choices for your future. This section includes a step-by-step guide on how to apply to Huddersfield, what documents you’ll need and when. Don’t skip reading this section, we’ve included everything you’ll need to join our global community.

Please ensure you have all the necessary documents, and that you meet the entry requirements for the course you are interested in before beginning your application.

Step 1 – Deciding how to apply

International students can apply directly to the University, and there are multiple start dates throughout the year.

To make your application, you can apply in one of four ways:

 

Through connecting with staff in our regional offices

By connecting with your regional officer - you’ll get advice and support with your application and through to enrolment. They will be able to offer advice on which course is right for you, outline the entry requirements and help you with understanding all the documents you’ll need to apply. They will support you in putting together and submitting your application. They will also support you with planning your arrival and answer questions around enrolment and orientation.

Through our direct application form online

You’ll complete our online form. We’ll need to know your academic history and English language proficiency. Before making your application, we strongly advise you to check you have met the entry requirements. Equivalent international qualifications can be found on our entry requirements page

You can also connect with your regional officer, a dedicated contact at the University for your country, before you apply, so you know you have everything you need.

 

Through a partner agent

We work with multiple partner agents across the world who can work with you to discuss your course options and make your application. Search for an agent by exploring our country specific information.

 

Through UCAS

It is also possible to apply through the Universities and Colleges Admission Service for the UK, (UCAS). Full details of how to complete your application are provided on the UCAS website, there will be a fee payable to UCAS for this application route.

Step 2 – Making your application

As part of your application, you’ll need to supply us with the following information:

  • Academic transcripts/marksheets and certificates/diplomas*
  • English language test scores* (IELTS, PTE, etc)*
  • Personal statement/statement of purpose detailing why you wish to study the course you are applying for and how this complements your career aspirations.
  • References**
  • Portfolio for many courses in: Art, Design and Architecture and Music.
  • Sponsorship confirmation (if your fees are going to be paid by your government or other organisation)
  • A copy of your current valid passport
  • A CV detailing your employment and work experience if applicable
  • If you are an international student already living in the United Kingdom, you must provide a copy of your current visa and full details of what you are studying
  • If you have studied in the UK previously or had any visa refusals for any country, you must also provide full information and documentation for this at this stage.

Once you have applied, we’ll send you your account details for MyHud, our dedicated application portal, where you’ll be able to track the progress of your application.

If you have applied through an agent, the agent will also be able to view the status of your application on their own dedicated agent portal.

 

*If you have not yet completed your current qualifications. If you do not yet have your transcripts/marksheets, please ensure you fully detail what you are studying in your application.

**References are only required for certain courses. Please ensure that you provide them if they are stated in the entry requirements for the course.

Step 3 - Your offer

If you meet our general entry requirements and the entry requirements of your chosen course, you’ll be made Conditional offer.

This will be conditional on any academic, financial or course specific entry requirements, such as ATAS, interviews or portfolios.

If you have applied through and agent, they will also be provided with your offer letter, and have full up to date access to your admission status.

Step 4 - Accept your offer

You can accept you offer through MyHud and is important that you do this as soon as possible to secure your place.

It is then important that you pay your deposit, and fulfil any conditions of your offer.,

In your offer letter, we will provide you with a dedicated email address in which to send all your documents. You can pay your deposit online

Once you meet the conditions of your offer, we will then proceed to your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

We will contact you by email requesting that you check your details, and is important that you reply as soon as possible to prevent any delays. Following your confirmation, we will issue you with a CAS Statement which you can then use to apply for your visa.

At this stage you will be Unconditional, and the admissions process is complete.

Step 5 - Your CAS Letter

You can use your CAS number to make your student visa application and plan your travel.

Submit your visa application as soon as you receive your CAS statement to ensure that you obtain your visa in time to travel to the UK for the beginning of the academic term. 

We have a dedicated Visa and Immigration Team who can support you with any visa related questions and advice that you may require.

Step 6 - Enrolment

Once you have your visa and have made you travel arrangements, we’ll be in touch to discuss your enrolment. We'll contact you by email with instructions for enrolment and you'll also find an overview on the applicant portal, MyHud.
