Fiona joined CSRC in 2014 after a 20+ year career in the not for profit sector working for a number of national and international charities in senior fundraising and communications roles. Areas of experience and expertise in this sector include emergency response comms, strategy development, budgeting, planning, branding and leading and managing teams and individuals. Fiona has experience of managing projects which bring together fundraising, communication and service delivery colleagues alongside the corporate sector, private individuals and foundations.
Previous roles include:
- Head of Fundraising & Communications for MAG, Mines Advisory Group, (2013-2014)
- Visiting Lecturer, University of Huddersfield, academic year 2012/13
- Independent Fundraising & Management Consultant (2010-2013) working with voluntary and private sector organisations including UNHCR, WSPA International, Voices for Change (Golley Slater), YMCA, National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (NAAONB).
- UNICEF UK, 1994-2009; Director of Fundraising (2005-2009); member of UNICEF’s five-person Directorate team reporting directly to Trustees with joint responsibility for the overall strategic direction and management of the organisation.
- Prior to this, roles at Shelter, the National Campaign for Homeless People and NSPCC.
Research and Scholarship
Areas of particular interest include sustainability issues in relation to natural resources including forests, food production and renewable energy, particularly in developing economies, as well as humanitarian disaster response and the creation of more resilient communities. Fiona is currently undertaking a part-time PhD looking at the coffee value chain from a PEG (poverty, environment and gender) perspective.

Whilst at UNICEF UK Fiona was involved in establishing and overseeing a number of significant not for profit/private sector partnerships. This included long term partnerships with organisations such as British Airways, Sheraton Hotels Group, FTSE and Manchester United which engaged staff and customers and delivered value for UNICEF and the corporate involved.

Teaching and Professional Activities
Fiona is involved in supporting the Business School’s commitment to PRME (Principles of Responsible Management Education) and to advancing social responsibility in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. This involves using CSRC research to illuminate issues in the classroom, the organisation of a wide range of speakers from industry and academia to speak on relevant issues and the undertaking of a review of Ethics, Responsibility, Resilience and Sustainability across undergraduate curricula.
