Biography

Qualifications: CertEd, BA(Hons), M.Soc.Sci, FHEA,

David joined the University in January 2009. He was the Examinations Tutor and Course Leader for the BA (Hons) in Education and Professional Development and an organiser of the Subject Specialist before taking up his current position of Consortium Director and HUDCETT Director. David has a long association with the Consortium and was Deputy Consortium Director during the academic year 2013/14. Alongside his Consortium work, David leads the activities of HUDCETT, our highly successful CETT, and this involves him working with our many partners nationally.

He began his teaching career with six years in various further education colleges, then progressed into management and eventually became a Head of Faculty. He subsequently moved into staff development, then teacher training.

Research and Scholarship

Current Research Interests

Between September 2015 and April 2016, David led an Education and Training Foundation funded project to write a ‘How to’ Guide on embedding the 2014 Professional Standards into initial teacher education courses

In March 2016, awarded £10,000 by the Education and Training Foundation to produce a CPD framework for teachers and trainers working in the education and training sector

David’s EdD thesis focuses on the use of modelling by further education based teacher educators.

Research Degree Supervision

Use of action research approach to investigate aspects of professional practice. I have recently supervised a Master’s level student who was investigating the impact of using memorised lexical text manipulation for the acquisition of writing skills.

Enterprise Activities

Since 2013 David has been responsible for various Education and Training Foundation initiatives within Yorkshire and Humberside and the north west, including the Maths Enhancement Project, Maths Pipeline II project, English Enhancement Programme. He has also managed the Regional Specialist Leads for maths, English and LDD.

Teaching and Professional Activities

Contribute to the undergardaute framework, the Pre-Service teacher education course for those seeking to work in the further education and skills sector and the MA in Action Research.
