Calma won a 2000 European Academic Software Award at the finals held at the World Trade Centre in Rotterdam. In total there were 271 entries in all subject areas from ten European countries, and the project was one of ten winners selected by the jury from thirty finalists. Julia was presented with the award by Dutch Education Minister Loek Hermans in front of an audience of six hundred delegates at the SURF Education Day, a conference examining uses of ICT in Higher Education. The winners were selected following a period of rigorous testing and evaluation by an expert jury over the past year. The EASA competition is an initiative of the European Knowledge Media Association (EKMA), which aims to stimulate understanding, development and knowledge media in European higher education. UK participation is organised by the Association for Learning Technology.
