What can I borrow?

To borrow items, you can use one of the self-service issue units on Floor 4 of the Library. 

You will need your campus card, and you should follow the simple instructions on the screen. You should always keep your receipt.

If you need assistance, ask a member of staff at the Help Centre.

How many items can be borrowed and for how long?

Standard Loan Items are available to borrow for a one week loan period.

Audiovisual equipment is also available to borrow for up to 1 week from the Help Centre. e.g. Dictaphones, digital cameras and video cameras.

Specific Needs students can request extended loans on standard books.  Please contact the Library Disability Support Officer in the Library for more details.

To return items, please use one of the self-service returns unit on Floor 4.

When the Library is closed, you can also return items via the self service returns unit situated in the Library foyer.

Fines are charged for all reserved items that are returned late.

Items on your library account will be *automatically renewed on a daily basis, therefore they will always be due back in 7 days time, unless someone else has requested them

Please check your emails as we will notify you if a request has been placed on an item that you have out on loan.  

You will have 7 days to return the item before any charges will be incurred.

Please remember to return all your items when you have finished with them

* Exceptions are laptop loans and AV equipment

 

If you find a book on Summon that you want to take out on loan, but it is not available or it is missing from the shelves, you can place a request to reserve the item. Once the item becomes available to loan, you will get an email notifying you that it is ready for collection.

Students are allowed to reserve up to five items at a time. Once you receive an email notifying you about the availability of an item, you will have 5 days to pick up the item, otherwise it will be taken off your account and placed back as an available item on the shelves. 

You will not be able to request items that are already available on the library shelves, so you cannot use Summon to reserve a book that is already on the shelf rather than going in to the library to take it out.

The following charges apply to overdue items:

Once the maximum fine is reached, you will be invoiced for the replacement cost of the item and the maximum fine.
