Enhancing Practice Educator Skills 2017-18
About the course
This specialist skills and post registration development short course is aimed at registered social workers who wish to update their practice educator skills and knowledge.
This course will assist you in developing the competences required to:
• Enhance your performance as an effective practice educator in accordance with the requirements of the Practice Educator Framework, Domain A- D.
• Demonstrate an applied knowledge of relevant research, policy and legislation in order to support students adequately.
• Transfer your practice educator skills to new roles in mentoring, supervision, teaching and/or assessment.
The course also provides you with an opportunity to:
• Explore and critically analyse your professional development as a practice educator and reflect on how you can use a variety of methods in practice education.
• Consider Higher Education Institution (HEI) processes and quality assurance systems related to practice education.
• Critically reflect on your development as a practice educator through feedback from colleagues, Higher Education Institution (HEI) tutors and other assessment sources.
Please note, in order to be able to independently support and assess social work students in line with the Practice Educator Framework, you must have successfully completed the [Developing Practice Educator Skills|00007014] short course prior to undertaking this short course.

• Be a qualified social worker registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
• Have successfully completed the [Developing Practice Educator Skills|00007014] short course.
• Act as a practice educator for a social work student alongside the course in order to complete the assessment.

When you enrol as a student of the University, your study and time with us will be governed by a framework of regulations, policies and procedures, which form the basis of your agreement with us. These include regulations regarding the assessment of your course, academic integrity, your conduct (including attendance) and disciplinary procedure, fees and finance and compliance with visa requirements (where relevant). This short course may assist you to meet the specialist skills and post registration development requirements stipulated by your employer/professional regulator.

Teaching and assessment
You will be taught through a series of lectures, seminars and workshops.Your studies will be supported by the University's virtual learning environment.
Assessment will include of a presentation and critical reflective overview.
Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.
Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results.
Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.

∗permanent staff, after probation: some recently appointed colleagues will only obtain recognition in the months after their arrival in Huddersfield, once they have started teaching.
