About the course
This one-year top-up degree course focuses on the strategic management of the supply chain and logistics operations. As business is becoming ever more complex and globalised, even for simple products, the supply chain is extending around the world and involving many different organisations. In this challenging environment, efficient and effective supply chain management is critical to the success of any manufacturing or retail business and this course examines supply chain management from a global perspective consistent with the globalisation of the world economy.

Strategic Supply Chain Management
This module evaluates the role of logistics and supply chain management in helping to achieve the strategic objectives of an organisation. You’ll explore how managing strategically across the entire supply chain can help an organisation to achieve and maintain its competitive edge in terms of market share and / or profitability. You’ll have the opportunity to diagnose problems within supply chains and to demonstrate your grasp of how different supply chain strategies can positively impact the performance of the firm.
This module is to help you to develop your skills and ability to carry out a substantial investigation into a particular aspect of transport and logistics of your choice. Emphasis is placed on review and evaluation of literature and other available information, rather than collection of original data. In the early stages of project development, seminars and workshops provide guidance in various important aspects of project formulation and development, such as choice of appropriate methodology, identification of sources of appropriate information, literature review techniques and report writing skills. For the remainder of the module, emphasis is placed on individual study, supported by regular personal supervision.
Global Business Strategy
This module applies the principles of Strategic Management to the international business through a study of concepts and theories. This module will be divided into four parts: Introduction to Strategic Management, Strategic Analysis, Strategic Choice and Strategic Implementation/Evaluation and on completion of this module, you should have a good understanding aware of the importance of effective Strategic Management for any organisation.
Retail and Manufacturing Logistics
This module examines the role of logistics in supporting the retail industry and providing a basis for competitive advantage. You’ll have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the structure of the retailing industry and the increased pressures being placed on suppliers and distributors. Retail network structures are analysed recognising the impact of globalisation and the growth in e-retailing on the total supply chain.
Managerial Decisions Change and Diversity
To satisfy the aims of the course, you'll consider all aspects of decision making and their functions in meeting managerial and ultimately corporate objectives. You'll be required to gain a full awareness of the managerial decision-making process and the make-up of the decision-making stages including the contribution made by information technology, developing practical skills and techniques to enhance this awareness.

Transport Economics and Policy
This module aims to provide you with the necessary tools and in-depth knowledge that will give you the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of a wide range of contemporary transport issues. These are analysed and set primarily within a policy and economics context suitable for the level of study. The module builds upon concepts developed in year one and two.
Supply Chain Systems and Modelling
This module explains the use of data and process modelling to support decision making in supply chain systems. It will show how data can be obtained, extracted and manipulated to enable decision support tools to be used to underpin the management of the supply chain. The module will demonstrate how the supply chain system can be modelled and analysed for re-engineering and improvement and will demonstrate how to select appropriate modelling tools for particular problems, incorporate data and use the models to evaluate alternative approaches.
Cross Cultural Studies
This module considers the influence that national culture has on behaviour and the implications of this for organisational design and management. The impact that working across national cultures is considered and how the cross cultural manager can be supported in a changing environment. A blend of theory and practice engages the learner in a range of organisational and cultural settings.

Teaching and assessment
You will be taught through a series of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, role play, case studies, case projects, site visits and fieldwork trips. You can also take part in innovative industry based projects and will have the opportunity to present work to a professional audience. Assessment will include exams, oral presentations, case studies, in-class tests, reports, essays and case study analysis.

The full-time undergraduate tuition fee for 17/18 entry is £9250.
