About the course
This suite of management courses offers a wide and flexible range of options and is designed for students either continuing their management and business-related knowledge or, particularly, students from other non-business academic disciplines. As such, it's an excellent opportunity for students, from a variety of backgrounds, to acquire awareness and insights into professional management principles and practice.
We will help equip you with the necessary knowledge of key management areas such as marketing, finance, people management and strategy which are covered on all routes. In addition you can choose to keep your Master's award quite broad or tailor your Master's award to specific specialism in HRM through the modules on this course route:
• International Human Resource Management
• Human Resource Strategy
Further specialisation and an opportunity to pursue an area of business management that interests you or which you are passionate about comes in your choice of project. You have a choice of two routes: the Research Route or the Consultancy Route (“subject to selection criteria”).

We accept the following:
• An Honours degree (2:2 or above) in any subject or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Applicants with other professional qualifications and/or experience will be considered individually.
For applicants whose first language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, will be considered acceptable, or equivalent.
This is an intensive and challenging full-time course. We encourage applicants to be committed to the rigorous nature of study required and to contributing to the programme so as to enjoy the maximum benefit toward developing their own knowledge and that of others on the course.

You will study the following modules:
The module is structured to give you a theoretical and practical understanding of managerial marketing decision making. You will be introduced to general marketing concepts and the techniques and tools of market analysis required for developing and implementing effective marketing strategies.
This module provides you with a substantial body of knowledge relating to the principles of strategic management in particular the two broad areas of techniques for analysing organisations and their environments and the identification of appropriate strategic choices. You will be encouraged to practice analyses and strategic designs throughout the delivery of the module.
The module provides you with a theoretical framework for analysing your professional skills and reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses. This assessment will then form the baseline from which to develop a plan for your own professional development during their period of studies. You will need to demonstrate that you have developed new skills and competences over the duration of the module through a portfolio.
Managing People in Organisations (F/T)
Managing People in Organisations is an extremely practical module which introduces critically analyses and evaluates key elements of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour to enable effective deployment of people within organisations. A strategic exploration of the global context within which people work and are managed is also carried out through a range of organisational behaviour concepts and theories.
Finance for Managers
This module enables you to develop an understanding of the purposes and uses of financial information, together with the ability to use quantitative skills to improve performance management and decision making within an organisation.
International Human Resource Management
This module explores human resource management emphasising the international dimension. Differing national cultures and an increasingly globalised economy are key aspects of the module. The module examines the strategies and practices of multinational corporations as well as a range of public, private and voluntary organisations in a wide range of different countries and cultural contexts
Human Resource Strategy
The ways that people are managed have a big influence on organisational performance yet many organisations still fail to connect human resource management to business strategy. This module first examines the main Human Resource Management (HRM) practices before examining how it can be linked to business strategy.

Research Methods and Techniques
This module is a designed to prepare you for your research. The module looks at how to choose your topic, how to research the current knowledge in your area of interest, and quantitative and qualitative research methods. The module is assessed through the completion of a literature review and proposal for your dissertation. You will be supported both by the module team and an individually assigned supervisor.
Economics Research Paper
You will work with academic staff to produce and submit a journal-type piece of work for publication, in any area of economics. This provides a greater insight into the subject for those wishing to continue their studies at doctoral level whilst adding value to the CVs of those taking up graduate employment
Final Project/Consultancy Route
This module prepares you for the Applied Consultancy Project. It introduces the theory underpinning the process of consultancy in organisations. The module will analyse various models of consultancy and you will explore different stages in the consultancy cycle including: the purpose of consultancy in business context, project scoping and contracting, information gathering, analysis and report, action planning, implementation, review and exiting. You will also critically examine your own consultancy skills.
Applied Consultancy Project
The consultancy project provides the opportunity to engage in an applied consultancy project, normally investigation with a business sponsor and provide solutions to a commissioned business problem. Students teams will be expected to engage in the process of scoping the project with the business client, undertake the necessary information gathering, analyse the information and make recommendations. Such company problems may be of a strategic or operational nature, thus allowing you to draw on several disciplines in order to apply theory to current business practice.
In the Research Route, you can choose an area of research of personal interest and related to your subject area in Management, with a view to conducting original research that can help illuminate understanding of a particular area of business. In the Consultancy Route, you will be engaged in a ‘real world' project, normally with a business sponsor and provide solutions to a commissioned business problem. You will work in small teams to engage in the process of scoping the project with the business client, undertake the necessary information gathering, analysing the information and make recommendations back to the client.

We review all optional modules each year and change them to reflect the expertise of our staff, current trends in research and as a result of student feedback. We will always ensure that you have a range of options to choose from and we will let students know in good time the options available for them to choose for the following year.
We will only change core modules for a course if it is necessary for us to do so, for example to maintain course accreditation. We will let you know about any such changes as soon as possible, usually before you begin the relevant academic year.

Huddersfield Business School is the most eco-friendly building on campus. It's a state-of-the art facility and provides you with a modern, professional environment in which to learn and develop.
All teaching rooms are high quality and the school has a number of computer labs for teaching or for students' individual or group use. Students will have comprehensive access to online resources and study materials through Unilearn, the university's online learning environment.
The Street Café is a perfect area for socialising, networking and relaxing over a wide range of fresh food, hot and cold drinks and free wi-fi. Set in landscaped grounds by the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, the Business School is in close proximity to the Library and Student Central which also offers a number of places to eat, areas to socialise with friends, the Students' Union, student services and modern sporting and fitness facilities.
The Business School is also home to the Learning Development Group who can provide advice on how to improve academic work including writing assignments, referencing, research skills, presentation skills and time management. There are also specialist learning advisors for international students who can help with a range of skills including academic English and language support.
How much will it cost me?
In 2017/18, the full-time tuition fee for UK and EU postgraduate students at the University of Huddersfield will generally be £5,100 (see Fees and Finance for exceptions). Tuition fees will cover the cost of your study at the University as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision and examinations.
